Week #1 JaNo 2011

It's been a great writing week for me! Who knew it would help to have an outline? Go figure :)

Unfortunately, I'm zippin' through my outline faster than I wanted. Which means that my MS might be shorter than I'd planned. But I can tweak a few things and add more detail later. Besides, my story is far from finished so much can happen before the end. I love when my character's surprise me!

I started my book Tuesday night and I've been going pretty strong all week. I did take a break last night to watch a movie and eat ice cream with the hubby, but taking breaks is part of being a successful writer. At least I think so.

Here's my progress.

Word count: 13, 156.

Conflict level: Good.

Character development: Medium.

Brain power: High.

And I'm proud to announce that I haven't done much editing. I love writing first drafts. There's something about letting your mind free and not worrying about the little details.

How has your week been?

  1. Wow, great week. I didn't write any new stuff except for some blog posts though I did edit a few chapters.

  2. Your word count is awesome. January makes so much more sense than November for NaNo. Good Luck!

I have done a TON of editing. I got my CP's comments back on the end of my book and it sparked a huge round of revisions.

  3. Susan-editing and blog writing definitely count! I only write this much in January.

Jenny-Thanks. And getting a lot edited is a ton of work. It's so much harder to edit (for me) than to write. Not so much hard as time consuming and less fun :) Good job on getting a TON of editing done. Yay for sparks of inspiration!

  5. Way to go! And it is super important to spend time with the hubs. A lot of the time I don't get much writing done because I'd rather hang out with my hubby. And they need to know that we like them. ;) Congrats on your first week!

  7. Chantele-Go eat some. And I have some cookies to go with your ice cream. You should come visit sometime! Seriously :)

Ruth-Some things are worth more than writing. The hubby and kids are definitely up at the top :)

Michael-Thanks! I'll definitely keep you up to date with my progress.

I absolutely love to read comments! In fact, I like reading comments more than eating candy. And if you don't know yet, eating candy is one of my biggest weaknesses. Your comment will not only make me smile, but my smile gets brighter with each one!
