Writing Poison

Yes, writing poison.

What does poison do? Well, typically it kills...or slows...or gets in the way of things running smoothly.

Often times I get stuck doing something that kills or slows or gets in the way of my writing.

Writing Poison (dun dun dun.)

Is it really something bad? No, usually not. It just keeps me from writing as often as I'd like. I'm not referring to family or other things that top the priority list.

Here's some ideas. Television, movies, reading, gaming...you get the idea right?

Since my mixed up Monday's were awesome but kind of confusing, I'm now changing it to "What's Your Poison?"

My poison this weekend was reading. Something that I can't live without. And if you love to read fantasy, you should try this poison.

Secondhand Charm by Julie Berry.

Secondhand Charm

Here's the goodread's blurb.

In a secluded village, magic sparkles on the edges of the forest. There, a young girl named Evie possesses unusually strong powers as a healer. A gypsy's charms—no more than trinkets when worn by others—are remarkably potent when Evie ties them around her neck. Her talents, and charms, have not escaped the notice of the shy stonemason's apprentice. But Evie wants more than a quiet village and the boy next-door. When the young king's carriage arrives one day, and his footman has fallen ill, Evie might just get her chance after all . . .

And since I'm not the best at review's, I'm going to give this one a SHOUT-OUT!

Julie Berry is becoming one of my favorite author's. I get lost in her writing and sink into the world and life of the MC.

And if you want more to sink your fantasy teeth into, you should also read this.

The Amaranth Enchantment.

The Amaranth Enchantment

So, what's your poison today? Are you sucked into replay's of your favorite show? Do you get carried away with blogging?

  3. My poison has been reading and watching Prison Break on Netflix.

Loved SECONDHAND CHARM. I'm reading THE FALSE PRINCESS. I just started and I'm not sure what I think yet. Now I have to quit procrastinating and get busy with my revisions.

  5. I have a daily dose of poison - blogging, facebook, my job. Always something to suck the time away and all my writing energy. I try to budget at least an hour - sometimes I get two, sometimes none. I guess it all balances out. :)

    Great post!

  7. At the moment, reading and blog reading are my two big poisons. School doesn't take too much time from me and I'm not currently working.

Thanks for the book recommendations! I love fantasy. I will definitely have to check them out :)

  8. I'm usually pretty good about avoiding TV, and I consider reading an occupational necessity, so I don't mind that, but when we went to Colorado over spring break I started playing solitaire while my family was getting ready for their days on the slopes, and I brought the habit home. It can be a real time vacuum...just one more game!

  11. Yup, I'm with you. My poison is reading. I read two books this weekend! Although, a big part of that might have been due to not feeling well...but typically, if I get a new book, I don't get much writing done until I finish reading!

  15. Thanks Heather. We have a wii and gamecube. I've been known to stay up late with a controller in my hand. Although my hubby just recently got into the card game of Magic the Gathering. I'm getting hooked.
