Come Meet Ruth Josse

My Photo
I met Ruth through a blogfest...and least, I think I did. That doesn't matter, though. The most important thing is that I met her. And she's awesome! So, consider yourself lucky that you get to meet her too (or get to learn more about her if you already knew her before).

On Ruth's blog she says,

"I write YA. Because teenagers are awesome. Other than that, I'm a mother of four, wife, and all around doormat. Just kidding. They love me."

Of course they do! I feel that way sometimes, though. And I agree. Teenagers are awesome! Which is why we write about them, and read about them, and watch them, and listen to them...okay. NO! I'm not creepy. Just curious. They're so fascinating.

Let's get to Ruth's interview so we can stalk, I mean, learn more about her too!

Ruth, how long have you been writing?

I'd like to say I'm one of those who have written since they could hold a crayon, but I'm not. Sure, I wrote stuff here and there but when did I get serious with it? It was over four years ago that I opened up my first document and tried to write a book. I still have a long ways to go.

(I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't start writing when I was that young. I'm totally new and love the learning process!)

What made you want to write?

Reading great books, wanting to be creative and boredom. I do a lot of things that don't require much brainpower so it's nice to have something that makes me think.

Do you have any pet peeves while writing?

Being interrupted. Which is inevitable. Darn those kids.

(Most of the time, I avoid writing while they're awake. It limits my time, though. Gotta love the interruptions!)

If you could sit down and reread any book, which would it be?

Love Anne of Green Gables. I have read the series a couple of times and I would do it again. But really, I could reread a lot of books. I have a horrible memory.

(Lucky! It would definitely be more exciting that way.)

What are three of your favorite writing blogs/websites?

I love all my bloggy friends equally. It would be hard to separate three from the pack. Please don't make me do it, Michelle!

(Okay, since you asked nicely...)

If you could meet any author, dead or alive, who would you choose?

OH, interesting. In my mind, authors from back in the day seem intimidating and I feel like they would laugh in my face and say, “Oh ye of little talent. What blasphemy is this to our beautiful literature?” So I'll go with any real, live author and I would greedily glean from their experience and expertise. I would love to meet Ally Condie. She seems very smart and nice.

(Okay, I LOVED your impression of the authors from back in the day. Definitely terrifying.)

What book are you reading right now and which one do you have lined up to read next?

I'm in a reading slump right now, so I'll take any suggestions. ;) I seem to have an endless amount of books in my TBR list but have the hardest time choosing one to read. I hate making decisions. Mostly, I'm looking forward to reading a whole slew of sequels coming out in the next year. (Could my answers be any more ambiguous?)

(I have the same problem with decisions on which book...I have a whole pile I'm staring at right now wondering which should be next! I just finished a good one, though, that I'll tell about next week :))

Do you prefer:

Early mornings or late nights? Late nights. Although my husband hates it. I've received many a lecture because of my night owl habits.
(Me too.)

Sandy beaches or rocky mountains? Beaches! But not because I love the ocean. I like warmth and sun.

Harry Potter, Peeta Mellark, or Edward Cullen? Hmm, depends on my mood. I don't tend to have favorites. It's constantly changing. But I do like boys in general:) (That doesn't sound creepy coming from a thirty-something mother of four, does it?)
(Okay, wait. I'm the one who asked you the question! Yes, mother of four here as well...)

And last, but not least, do you prefer fruity candy or chocolate?

I'm convinced I have a sugar addiction, so I'm not exclusive. (Except for anything with coconut or licorice. Blech.) But when I go to the movies I either get Milk Duds or Sour Patch Kids. Sometimes both and always the jumbo-sized boxes.

(I love BOTH of those. Well, leaning more toward the Sour Patch Kids (yeah we have a club to start with that one), but I also love the Milk Duds. My teeth just don't agree with me on the duds. The fake ones really argue the point!)

It was so much fun to learn more about you, Ruth! I'm glad we have a lot in common. Thanks for answering my questions...even if they were about teenage boy crush's.

Everyone else, be sure to stop by Ruth's blog, Ruth + WritingI have to add that her blog address is babyruthwrites.blogspot.com. Mostly so I can post a picture of this...I just had to do it :)

Have a great weekend!

  2. Nice interview. Interruptions are the worst, aren't they? It's so hard to get your train of thought back sometimes. I hate coconut, too. Sorry Chantele.

  3. Okay, I'll make my coconut stand now (to back up Chantele...it's what I do, unless camping is involved :)). I love coconut! Yummy!

  8. Thank you, Michelle! So much fun! I'm totally okay with anyone who likes coconut. It's a free country. I like you all, just the way you are!

  9. Nice to learn a bit more about Ruth - and I'm glad I'm not the only one with a terrible memory that means I get to reread books :-)

  10. Fun interview, girls! I'm totally a beach girl too, not to mention a recovering sugar addict. :)

  11. Great interview Michelle :)

I love Ruth so that was fun to learn more about her. What great questions! I think the candy question is one of the most profound. I might start weeding out new people I meet by candy preference. I'll call it candy profiling. If someone tells you that they don't eat candy you know you will never be soul mates :)

    I'm a new follower :)

  16. Great interview!

I have trouble deciding which books I'm going to read next, too. LOL. Sequels to good books are always a sure thing, though. :)
