While visiting my parents, I read this book.
I loved dipping into the sixty's and going vintage with the characters. With my own issues of technology taking over real life conversations and face to face connections, this was right up my alley!
And to make my experience even better, I spent the week going through old fashioned things taken from my grandma's house. Here's the photodump of vintage awesomeness.
Yes, this is a Better Homes and Gardens Magazine from 1963! Awesome, right?
I absolutely loved these ads. Ice cream in Cream of Wheat? Sure, why not?
We also found dresses my grandma wore back in the day.
This is of me in her homemade wedding dress! So much fun!
It was a great week made even better by reading Going Vintage and finding these vintage things from my personal past.
If you haven't read it, do it! I love Lindsey Leavitt's books.

Hi, Michelle,
ReplyDeleteHow are you? What a FUN trip. I LOVE everything vintage. My home is a mix from every era. And it works. As an interior designer, I am familiar with every decades decor.
Fashion, ads, and furniture from the 50's and 60's is SOOOO HOT right now. Everyone wants mid century modern!
How cool to discover all your grandmother's hidden treasures.
I remember as a kid, when my grandmother passed away, mom and I went through her things and we found a silk, flapper's dress from the 1920's... it was AMAZING. We had found out later my grandmother had worn it on her honeymoon. Sadly it got destroyed from a flood in our basement the following year. But I still remember that organdy silk dress with the burnt orange silk tulle.
I love the pictures in your grandma's dresses. So beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWriteOnCon was a success!!!!!
That book is on my list--such a fun idea, and the author has 60s-related pinterest boards. I also love old magazines. My family had some 1940s LIFE magazines when I was a kid and I was obsessed with them. I even used LIFE magazines in my novel, they are super helpful if you write historicals. :D
