Can I get a HALLELUJAH?

I did it! I finished another draft of my book. And it's already out to beta reader's! In fact, I sent it to beta readers early so that I had more determination to finish.

And it's done!

Current title is Smoke and Ashes. I wanted to call it Ashes, but yanno...another book just came out with that name.

Final word count is 64,589.

Brain status: Fried.

That was so hard to do with the preggo brain. We'll see how my JaNo goes next month! Hopefully I can pump out a novel with a baby zapping most of my creative energy :)

I have one more accomplishment to tell you about. I know, get off my soap box and sit down, but this is really exciting to me. A year ago I realized that most writer's only use one space after a period instead of the two I learned when I started typing. I was so determined to change my habit.

And after lots of practice, I did it! I am converted to the one space after period. Isn't it fabulous? I know, I'm weird. But remember my first announcement about finishing a book? Yeah, my brain needs a break :)

What have you been up to? Please tell me your awesome accomplishments...or even little goals you've reached. It all gets us one step closer to where we want to be!

  2. Congrats! Finishing a draft is such an awesome feeling :D And yay for retraining yourself, heh. That can be extremely hard to do! Old habits die hard and all that. I'm currently working on revisions for my MS... hopefully it'll be ready soon!

  4. Yes!!! Congrats to ya. I knew you could do it!! And good for you, learning to type again by omitting one space after periods! Wow. That would be difficult. :) Let that poor fried brain rest, now.

  5. Woohoo! Well done. :) I just finished my own draft so I know how AWESOME it feels. And yes, you need a rest.

(BTW, I'm reworking my first chapter but I'd still love for you to look at it. It's giving me fits so you may have to tell me how to fix it. grrr.)

  6. Go you, congratulations! Your accomplishments are inspiring me in the lazy state I've been in lately.

I learned to type with two periods, too. Apparently someone needs to fix this. . . It puts writers through a lot of agony, I've learned. ;)

  7. Thanks everyone! My rest is on the way :) I'm so excited for the holidays. Yay for you Ruth! Send your chapter over :) And Madeline...lucky for us writer's, they invented FIND and REPLACE. That's how I used to fix my problem before I retaught my brain how to work. Find your double spaces and replace them with one!

  9. Hallelujah! Congrats, isn't it an incredibly freeing experience?

And I still haven't mastered the one space instead of two. Maybe that will be my New Years resolution....

    Congrats again!

  10. So many of us were trained putting the 2 spaces. I usually get it right but I check my whole manuscript each time looking for just that.

  11. YOU GO GIRL! Congratulations!!! It's such an exciting time when the manuscript is complete! I'm still working to start my YA novel, and finish up a short story! I'll celebrate when I'm done... whenever that's done.

  13. Wahoo! Congratulations on finishing your draft and on beating the two space habit. Those lessons are hard to change once you've done it one way for so long. I envy you. I still have to think about it every time. Take some time off and do something to refresh your brain.

  18. Yay Michelle!! Way to kick that story's butt.

And I totally used to be a two-space-after-periods kinda girl. I mean, that's what they taught us in typing class! It took me a long time to change that habit too.
